Climate change is omnipresent. We can also observe this in Austria. For the Samburu, an indigenous community in northern Kenya, however, the challenges are particularly acute: increasingly unpredictable rainy seasons are leading to serious water shortages. In response to this, a team from shiftTanks with the participation of
University of Leoben together with Peninah Lesorogol initiated the shift4Water project. The aim was to support the village of Naiborkeju in setting up a sustainable agroforestry project and utilising scarce water resources efficiently. Agroforestry is an agricultural concept that combines agriculture and forestry and is more resilient to climate change. Key parts of the project include the implementation of an off-grid PV system and a drip irrigation system to ensure efficient water use.
In the summer of 2024, the shift4Water team travelled to Kenya to implement its solutions on site. A documentary film accompanies this process and provides in-depth insights into the project itself, but also into the everyday lives of the local people.
